Originally the brainchild of Ross Rogers
and Doug Daws, the Goldfields War Museum was opened in August 1979.
In 1992, the museum became the home of the Boulder Hidden Secrets
group who volunteered their time to the council to keep the museum
open. In September 1997 the Boulder Hidden Secrets said goodbye to
the Goldfields War Museum which remained empty until it was reopened
in June 1998. Since its reopening the Museum has gained in popularity
and reputation.
There are many objects in the museum that relate specifically to the
Goldfields such as photographs and uniform ornaments of the Goldfields
Infantry Regiment, war service medals, letters from soldiers to the
local women’s auxiliary, war souvenirs and memorabilia. Of particular
interest is a A77mm Krupp M96 NA Cannon, captured by the Australian
32nd battalion in France in 1918. The museum also has an impressive
outdoor display of armoured vehicles that includes two ‘Ferret’ Scout
cars, a M3 Stuart Tank, British Staghound and a Bren Gun Carrier.
